EMOTIONS

Let me explain: emotions are the spice of life that arise from a particular event or situation. In those circumstances, feelings and sensations occur which constitute the components of the emotion that we experience. They come together in a harmonious way that resonates within our mind and soul. Putting it more simply, these special moments in time have all the elements that trigger the emotional response that we feel. Such experiences become embedded in our mind and body and, as time goes by, they form the foundational elements of nostalgic memory.

So, when we see a photograph that excites us, it triggers an emotional response that revitalizes and draws on our memorable experiences of the past. At that instant, we commence a journey - as if traveling through the photograph into the actual scene. It overwhelms us and carries us deep into our psyche with all the feelings and sensations of the association that we have with that photographic scene. When that pathway is completed, the connection and linkage to that special moment in time is achieved.

How can such perfection of the integration of photography and emotion be attained? How can a photographer create that feeling of excitement and heightened interest in the pictures that are captured? The necessary attributes are: passion; creative artistic vision and skills with sensitivity and imagination; empathy and emotional receptiveness to connect through a camera and lens with the subject is essential.

I am not yet at the level of competency and skill that I so desire - but I am truly excited by the challenge to learn and gain more experience so that I will be able to take photographs with greater emotional connectivity. Apart from the artistic photographers whose outstanding work I see, I am deeply motivated to do this when I think of a beautiful little bird that is nurtured with encouragement and love and with that infusion is able to fly high in the sky, seeing and experiencing the world in all its beauty and glory.

I hope that future editions of my website will contain more images that capture emotion that flows through to each one of you who takes the time to look at my photographs. Until then, I hope that you enjoy my gallereries and that some, if only a few of my photographs, strike an emotional chord in your heart.
